On Wednesday 8th April I attended the Oshun cafe: #ArtofAcai popup launch in Shoreditch. Founded by Liane Holey. After seeing the berry bowl craze all over my instagram feed I felt this was something I had to devour. I am a fan of all things smoothie and the concept of the acai berry bowls are very similar to smoothie bowls. Both concepts have taken the health food community by storm.

The acai berry is a purple fruit indigenous to the amazon rainforest. These small berries pack a nutrient punch with amino acids, as well as A,B,C,E and minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper and zinc. The berries taste like blueberries and look a lot like dark chocolate.

The Oshun cafe will serve 4 variations of the berry bowls for £6 each and are available to eat in or takeaway. These are: The Oshun Native - Açaí, banana and honey. The Oshun Tang – courgette, lime, sour cherries and Açaí pulp. Oshun Kong – banana, lemongrass, ginger, coriander and honey. And last but not least, the Oshun Maya – Açaí berries, raw cacao, cinnamon, orange and avocado.

I found that the berry bowls were tasty. The texture was velvety with a thick smooth consistency. It was a very berry experience.

The Acai berry bowls seem to be a growing breakfast trend however they can be enjoyed around the clock, so whenever you please. In Brazil its often eaten as an afternoon treat.

The Oshun cafe is now open and will open till 27th April. So if your in the area of Shoreditch; I suggest you get yourself down there to sample some.
