Located in the Heart of New York’s Times Square, the View Restaurant & Lounge is New York’s only revolving restaurant. With a spectacular award winning menu, the food and drink here are exceptional.
Situated inside the New York Marriott Marquis, you escape the hustle and bustle of Times Square and you're whisked away in open glass elevators to the 47th & 48th Floor, which is quite the ride.
We were greeted upon arrival and asked to wait a few minutes before been shown to our table. The restaurant doesn’t stop revolving, which proved tricky on our minds to just take the step. Once seated the fear settled down, moving ever so slightly the restaurant revolves as you dine, offering you 360 views of New York.
As New York’s real estate has evolved, buildings have gotten a lot taller especially in Times Square, so the view is certainly not what it once would’ve been. Instead, you get to see some views of Times Square, The Hudson River, The W Hotel but mostly the view is of an office building.
We were greeted by our waiter, offered a bottle of water and a chance to look through the drinks offerings. It was a special night as not only was it my first time in New York City, I was also celebrating my birthday and visiting my bestie Maureen - so celebrations were in order.
We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which was carefully recommended by our waiter, it was light and enjoyable.
For our starters, we went for the crab cake and Foie Gras Ganache. The crab cake was lovely, really packed with some delicious crab accompanied with a small side salad.
For our main course or entrees as the (Americans call them.) I went for the Herb Crusted saddle of Lamb which was accompanied with a rich Bordeaux reduction which was served on a bed of rutabaga with Brussel sprouts and a tomato-mushroom ragout. The lamb was cooked perfectly and exactly as requested. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish.
Maureen went for the Center Cut Beef Tenderloin, which was served with steak fries, heirloom carrots and shallot herb butter.
As it was a special night we also shared a 2 Ib Grilled Maine lobster and it was deliciously good.
For dessert, I opted for the strawberry cheesecake, it was a deconstructed version of the traditional New York cheesecake, it had a creamy top, biscuit base topped with a white chocolate crisp, and a sweet strawberry jus. It was decorated with strawberries with subtle notes of lime and cucumber.
Maureen opted for the selection of ice cream, and sorbets which had a nice balance of flavours from Vanilla with Croquant | Chocolate over Oreo Crumble | Dark Cherry over Graham Crumble | Strawberry Sorbet over Heath Bar Crumble.
The waiter also surprised me with a chocolate cake with a candle to celebrate my birthday, which was a super sweet gesture and added the icing to my night. Overall, I would recommend the View Restaurant and Lounge for a special night in New York City. Definitely, check out the revolving restaurant. It's an experience in itself. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
